With her personal highlights so this year, such as being hand-picked by Snoop Dogg to accompany him onstage at the YouTube Brandcast in May 2013 Niykee has maintained a steady songwriting routine despite the whirlwind of recent times. At present, she is a magnet to aspiring artists, she is constantly looking over beats that are sent to her and realizes that most end up sparking song ideas. "I'll be able to discern within the first 5 seconds if it's a good beat. When I've got an idea in my head, I will start writing immediately." When I am playing my guitar outside on my porch I begin writing, and words flow. Most times, it's accomplished in thirty minutes. Niykee's pain from her past is a constant source of inspiration as she develops as a writer. Although I don't write in a literal way about what has occurred to me, the hurt of growing up and the loss of my sister end up getting pushed into my lyrics, she says. This influences my music and creates a deeper significance behind everything that is one the most important things to me--I need to know that I could listen to any one of my music 20 years from now and still feel proud of the things I had to say.
